Numbers of Approved Specified Non-profit corporations reached 15th(July 30th, 2003)

Pilot International Japan District Foundation(Chyuo-ku, Tokyo)was approved as the 15th Specified non-profit Corporations to receive a tax-deductible donations by the National Tax Administration Agency yesterday.

Pilot International was founded and chartered in 1921 in United States as an international service organization. The acitivities in Japan benefit people with brain-related disorders and disabilities.

Currently in Japan NPOs incorporated under the NPO Law (Specified Nonprofit Corporations) do not have tax-exempt status. However, a new tax legislation was enforced in October 2001 as the first legislation to address the eligibility of Specified Nonprofit Organizations to receive tax-deductible donations. Unfortunately the conditions which NPOs must satisfy according to this law are very strict, only 15 incorporated NPOs were approved during the past 2 years.

For a complete list of Approved Specified Non-profit Corporations, view the web site of the National Tax Administration Agency at http://www.nta.go.jp/category/npo/04/01.htm.
